Short thoughts on several books

>> Monday, May 23, 2011

Relentless by Dean Koontz – Too many similarities with another Koontz book that I just read recently (The Good Guy), and several unconvincing plot, predictable ending - and yet, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the book because it’s written from a first person’s narration who’s funny and witty. Quite refreshing to read a thriller with humour.

Aku Mahu Superbibik By Ain Maisarah & Izanor Sharif – I’m not the target reader for this book (which is teenage girl). I found it quite flat with unsuccessful attempts at humour.

The Scarpetta Factor by Patricia Cornwall – Quite a lot of ‘histories’ of the main characters (must be from Cornwall’s previous books) interwoven in the plot, but a fresh reader can still follow the story. Intense, interesting.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd – Not quite extraordinary, but still a sweet read.

Karipap-karipap Cinta by Nazri M Annuar – Ordinary story, but the author pulled off the humour nicely. Funny. I can’t help thinking this novel is suitable to be adapted as a telemovie.

The Truth About Melody Browne by Lisa Jewell – A comedy and tragedy at the same time. An enjoyable read.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel – A promising start, very engaging. But I’m a bit a disappointed with the ending (say the last twenty or so pages), a bit flat and ‘off’.

Breaking Knees by Zakaria Tamer – Weird. Odd. (Why did I pick up this book?) It’s an anthology of very short stories translated from Arabic to English. But the concept of ‘very short story’ is very interesting. Some are really just a few sentences long (not even one page).

I actually had to be unrelenting to read Relentless. Things only got interesting enough halfway through the story.

Salam...

Saya kurang setuju tentang komen tentang buku Aku Mahu Superbik.
